Jim McKay, a popular New York City sportscaster passed away today of natural causes in Monkton, Maryland. Jim McKay hosted Wide World of Sports on ABC for more than 40 years showing us all manner of odd, interesting and far-flung sports events. He was 87 years old.

Kobe Bryant was awarded the 2008 Most Valuable Player –MVP by the NBA in a ceremony in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Tonight, he will be presented with the MVP trophy by NBA commissioner David Stern just before the Lakers next conference semifinal game against Utah.
Bryant received 82-first-place votes and 1,105 points in the media vote. New Orleans’ player Chris Paul was second with 28 and 889, Boston’s Kevin Garnett third with 15 and 670 and Cleveland’s LeBron James rounded it out with 1 and 438.
